When officers arrived, John Tibbs, 50, of Alton, opened fire on them, prompting police to return fire and strike him, resulting in his critical condition at a local hospital. Tibbs has been charged with three counts of attempted murder and three counts of reckless conduct. No officers were injured during the incident, and officers provided immediate medical aid to Tibbs.
