Australia Announces $3 Billion NBN Upgrade Plan

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced a $3 billion investment to complete the National Broadband Network (NBN) rollout, which will enhance internet speeds to up to 1GB per second for over 11 million homes and businesses by 2030. The funding will focus on upgrading the fibre-to-the-node connections, benefiting over 620,000 premises, particularly in regional areas. NBN Co will contribute an additional $800 million to the project. Albanese emphasized the importance of maintaining public ownership of the NBN, stating that Labor is committed to finishing the initiative they originally launched. The upgrades are expected to boost Australia's GDP by over $10 billion and support job creation. Communications Minister Michelle Rowland highlighted the long-term economic benefits and the essential nature of the investment for modern connectivity.
