Welsh Government Grants £10 Million for Green Energy

The Welsh Government has allocated up to £10 million in grant funding to support 32 community green energy projects under the Ynni Cymru programme, which focuses on locally owned renewable energy generation and smart local energy systems. These projects will implement technologies such as solar panels, heat pumps, battery storage, and electric vehicle charging points across various community facilities including schools and care homes. Rebecca Evans, the Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning, emphasized the importance of integrating innovative, locally driven energy solutions to enhance clean energy access and reduce reliance on large-scale infrastructure. The funded projects are expected to be completed by March 2025. In a related initiative, Lanarkshire's climate action hub received £480,000 from the Scottish Government to promote energy efficiency and environmental resilience, among other local projects. This funding is part of a larger £5.5 million effort to empower communities across Scotland in their climate actions.
