Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge visited Nanded, Maharashtra, to offer condolences to the family of late Congress MP Vasantrao Chavan, who passed away on August 26 due to severe health complications. Chavan, 69, had been diagnosed with multiple issues, including Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy and cardiac arrest, despite receiving comprehensive care at KIMS Hospital in Hyderabad. He was elected from the Nanded constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, defeating BJP's Pratap Chikhalikar. Chavan's political journey began in 1990 as a gram panchayat member, and he was recognized for his loyalty to the Congress party throughout his career. Several party leaders expressed their grief over his passing, emphasizing the significant loss for the Congress family. Rahul Gandhi is also set to unveil a statue of party leader Patangrao Kadam and address a public meeting during his visit to Maharashtra.
