Moldova has launched its first tender for renewable energy, seeking to award up to 165 MW of capacity from wind and solar projects to enhance energy independence and reduce reliance on Russian energy. The tender, open for submissions until March 31, 2025, aims for 60 MW of solar photovoltaic and 105 MW of wind energy, with contracts guaranteeing fixed prices for 15 years. Energy Minister Victor Parlicov emphasized the importance of this initiative for energy security and national commitments to achieve a 30% share of renewable energy by 2030. Currently, Moldova's renewable energy share stands at 10%, expected to rise to 16.6% post-commissioning of the new plants. The government aims to attract local and international investors while ensuring competitive pricing for consumers. This move comes in response to heightened vulnerabilities following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, prompting Moldova to strengthen its energy infrastructure and connections with the European Union.
