Over 3,900 Hollywood Figures Boycott Israeli Film Institutions

Over 4,000 prominent Hollywood actors, directors, and film industry professionals have signed a pledge to boycott Israeli film institutions, including festivals, broadcasters, and production companies, citing their complicity in what they describe as genocide and apartheid against Palestinians. Signatories include high-profile figures such as Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Olivia Colman, Ava DuVernay, and Javier Bardem, who emphasize that their boycott targets institutions rather than individual Israeli citizens. The boycott movement draws inspiration from the anti-apartheid cultural boycotts of South Africa during the 1980s and is part of a broader international response to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict following the Hamas attack in October 2023. Paramount Pictures, however, has condemned the boycott, arguing that silencing artists based on nationality undermines peace and mutual understanding.
