He played alongside his friend Benjamín Suárez, the son of Uruguayan striker Luis Suárez, who is also part of Inter Miami. The tournament features eight teams from North and South America, and Messi and Suárez were in Rosario following Inter Miami's early elimination from the MLS playoffs.
