Two Bodies Found in Appomattox, St. Lawrence Rivers Virginia Investigation Underway
In July 2025, two separate bodies were recovered from the Appomattox River near Petersburg and Chesterfield County, Virginia. On July 9, Jose Ulloa, 34, was identified after his body was found following an earlier report of a man falling into the river. Later, on July 21, another man's body was retrieved near the Carriage House Apartments; authorities noted the individual had been in the water for a significant period before being discovered. Both recoveries involved coordinated efforts from local police and fire departments, and investigations are ongoing, with bodies sent to the medical examiner's office for identification and autopsy. In a related incident, Egbert J. Dees, a 70-year-old Virginia boatbuilder, was found dead near the St. Lawrence River on July 15 during a milestone journey called the Great Loop, which spans over 6,000 miles of waterways. Dees was celebrated for chronicling his boat-building and travels on social media, but the cause of his death has not been disclosed.
