Juvenile Charged With Capital Murder in Cottondale Shooting

A 39-year-old man, Cornelius Darnell Witherspoon, was shot and killed inside his vehicle in Cottondale, Alabama, early Friday morning. Authorities report that Witherspoon had been living at the residence with his girlfriend and her children. Investigators determined that an argument between Witherspoon and his girlfriend's son, a minor, led to the fatal shooting. The juvenile suspect has been charged with capital murder, specifically because the shooting occurred while Witherspoon was inside his vehicle. The suspect, though under 18, is being charged as an adult, but his identity has not been released due to legal restrictions. The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is leading the ongoing investigation.
