Key unions have paused planned bin strikes across Scotland after accepting an improved pay offer that will allow members to vote on the new terms. The offer includes a minimum 3.6% pay increase for all local government workers, with the lowest-paid workers receiving a 5.63% increase, translating to an overall rise of 4.27%. This decision comes after Scottish Government ministers identified additional funding to help facilitate the offer, which is seen as a significant improvement from the previously rejected 3.2% increase. Union leaders expressed hope that the new deal would be accepted by their members, thereby preventing disruption during the Edinburgh Festival. However, concerns remain about the sustainability of the funding, as Finance Secretary Shona Robison indicated it necessitated reallocating resources from other budget areas.
