San Jose Teacher, Assistant Arrested in Sexual Abuse Investigations

Darrin Garcia, a 53-year-old teacher and athletic director at Kathleen MacDonald High School in San Jose, was arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student from 2021 to 2023. Garcia was previously a teacher at Santa Clara High School and has been a prominent coach in Santa Clara County. In a separate incident, Sherman Cater III, a 38-year-old teaching assistant at the same high school, was arrested for possessing and sharing child pornography after an investigation confirmed he was downloading illicit material from his home. Both cases have raised serious concerns about the safety of students within the school district. The Santa Clara Unified School District has placed both individuals on administrative leave and is cooperating with the ongoing investigations. Authorities are calling for anyone with further information to come forward.
