Kate Douglass Wins Olympic Gold in Breaststroke

Kate Douglass won her first individual Olympic gold medal in the women's 200-meter breaststroke at the Paris 2024 Olympics, setting a new American record with a time of 2:19.24. Douglass, a statistics major from the University of Virginia, attributes some of her success to applying statistical analysis to her swimming. She previously earned a bronze in the 200-meter individual medley at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and a silver in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay in Paris. South Africa’s Tatjana Schoenmaker, the defending Olympic champion, took silver, while Tes Schouten from the Netherlands won bronze. This victory marked Team USA's third individual swimming gold at these Olympics, providing a much-needed boost amidst a series of silver medals.
