Body Cam Footage Released Following Gene Hackman, Betsy Arakawa Deaths

Recently released police body camera footage shows authorities entering Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa’s Santa Fe home, where their bodies were found in separate rooms, with one of their dogs guarding Arakawa. Environmental assessments revealed extensive rodent infestation in outbuildings, but not inside the main house. Arakawa died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, likely contracted from rodent exposure, while Hackman, who had advanced Alzheimer's, died about a week later from heart disease. Investigations also showed Arakawa had researched flu-like symptoms and respiratory issues before her death. Of their three dogs, one died from dehydration, while the other two were rehomed. The couple’s private lifestyle delayed their discovery, with their handyman alerting authorities after several weeks of no contact.
