PFL to Allow Elbow Strikes in 2025

Donn Davis, founder and chairman of the Professional Fighters League (PFL), announced a significant rule change for the 2025 season, allowing elbow strikes in all bouts. This decision aligns PFL more closely with the UFC, which recently lifted its ban on downward elbow strikes known as 12-6. Previously, elbows were only permitted in non-season matches, and the ban was in place to mitigate the risk of cuts that could sideline fighters during the promotion's season format. Davis emphasized that this change comes in response to fan feedback and aims to evolve the sport. In addition to this rule change, the PFL plans to expand its schedule to include 34 events in 2025. However, there are concerns about how fighters will manage potential injuries from elbow strikes during the tightly scheduled seasons.
