The transformation of the slippers also plays a significant role in Wicked, where they grant the character Nessarose the ability to walk, highlighting their importance in the narrative. Meanwhile, a pair of Judy Garland's original ruby slippers is currently up for auction, having a rich history marked by theft and recovery, with bids reaching $1.15 million. These slippers, unique in color and condition, are one of only four known pairs that exist. Tazewell's designs for the film, including Ariana Grande's elaborate Glinda dress, aim to evoke nostalgia while providing a contemporary flair.
