South Africa Bowls Out England for Lowest Home ODI Total in 26 Years at Leeds
South Africa delivered a dominant performance against England in the first ODI of their three-match series at Headingley, Leeds, bowling England out for just 131 runs in under 25 overs, their lowest-ever first-innings total against South Africa at home in 26 years. The Proteas' bowlers, led by left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj (4-22) and all-rounder Wiaan Mulder (3-33), wreaked havoc on the English batting lineup, which collapsed from 82-2 to 131 all out despite a fighting half-century from England's Jamie Smith. South Africa then chased down the target comfortably, losing only three wickets, with opener Aiden Markram scoring a rapid 86. England's score was the third-lowest all-out total at Headingley in ODI history and marked the first time since the 1975 World Cup that a team was bowled out for less than 150 at the venue in the 21st century. The defeat also ended Harry Brook's six-game winning streak as England's white-ball captain and highlighted England's lack of 50-over preparation compared to the Proteas, who came into the match fresh from a series win in Australia. Maharaj's figures were historic as he recorded the best bowling figures by a South African spinner against England in ODIs, surpassing Imran Tahir's 4/38 from 2011.
