Balin Miller Dies After Fall on El Capitan

Balin Miller, a 23-year-old Alaskan climber and popular TikTok streamer, died Oct. 1 after falling from El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, his mother confirmed. Family members and witnesses said Miller was lead rope soloing the 2,400-foot Sea of Dreams route and, after finishing the climb, likely rappelled off the end of his rope while hauling a gear bag that became stuck; parts of the incident were reportedly captured on a TikTok livestream. Yosemite rangers responded to the scene and the National Park Service is investigating. The park said the death is the third in Yosemite this summer. Miller, known to followers as the “orange tent guy,” was an accomplished alpinist who had recently completed notable solo climbs in Alaska, Patagonia and the Canadian Rockies, and family and the climbing community have posted tributes.
