Billy Montgomery, Former Louisiana State Rep, Dies at 87

Billy Montgomery, a highly respected educator, coach, and former Louisiana State Representative, has died at the age of 87. As head basketball coach and later principal at Haughton High School, Montgomery led his teams to multiple state tournaments and secured back-to-back state championships, earning a place in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. He served as State Representative for District 9 from 1988 to 2008, where he championed $60 million in funding that facilitated the construction of Bossier Parish Community College’s current campus and secured land for essential expansion. BPCC recognized his contributions by dedicating its gymnasium to him in 2018, with college officials praising his vision, integrity, and lasting impact on the institution and broader community. After his legislative career, Montgomery continued serving the public as a legislative liaison for the Bossier Parish Police Jury. His legacy is remembered for shaping both local education and the Bossier Parish community.
