Serbian President Considers Rio Tinto Lithium Mine

Serbia is reconsidering the approval of Rio Tinto's Jadar lithium project after massive environmental protests led to license revocation in 2022. President Aleksandar Vucic is now considering greenlighting Europe's largest lithium mine, potentially supplying a significant portion of Europe's lithium needs and boosting the country's economy. The project, if completed, could have a substantial impact on the EV industry, producing 58,000 tons of lithium yearly, enough for 17% of Europe's EV production. Despite past opposition and environmental concerns, there are indications of a shift towards approving the project due to promises of meeting environmental standards and economic benefits.
