Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce has been issued an eight-year show-cause penalty by the NCAA for recruiting violations during his tenure at Arizona State. The violations, which occurred during the COVID-19 dead period, involved impermissible recruiting activities, including hosting unofficial visits and providing inducements such as meals, lodging, and entertainment to prospects. Pierce, who was an associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Arizona State, was identified as the orchestrator of these violations, using his authority to pressure staff into compliance. If Pierce returns to college coaching, he will face a one-year suspension from all athletic-related activities. The NCAA report also highlighted his lack of cooperation during the investigation. Similar penalties have been issued to other staff members involved, including a five-year show-cause for former analyst Anthony Garnett.
