Brightline Train Collision with Fire Truck in Florida
On Saturday morning, a high-speed Brightline train collided with a fire truck in downtown Delray Beach, Florida, injuring three firefighters and twelve train passengers. The incident occurred after the fire truck drove around lowered rail crossing arms, attempting to cross the tracks following the passage of a freight train. The impact was severe, splitting the fire truck in half and causing significant damage to the train's front. Emergency services transported the injured to local hospitals; all are reported to be in stable condition with minor injuries. The Federal Railroad Administration and potentially the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash. Brightline, which has a troubling safety record with over 100 fatalities since 2017, has yet to release a statement on the incident.
