Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg Dies at 65
Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg, renowned Chicago Cubs second baseman, died at age 65 after a two-year battle with metastatic prostate cancer. Sandberg made 10 consecutive All-Star teams, won nine Gold Glove awards, and was named the 1984 National League MVP, particularly for his performance in 'The Sandberg Game.' Over his 16-year MLB career, he hit 282 home runs and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005. Following his playing days, Sandberg managed the Philadelphia Phillies from 2013 to 2015. He was honored with a statue at Wrigley Field last month on the 40th anniversary of his iconic game, and tributes have come from across baseball. Sandberg is remembered for his integrity, grit, and enduring impact as a player, manager, and ambassador of the sport.
