OpenAI Debuts Codex GA and Apps SDK

At DevDay on Oct. 6, 2025, OpenAI said its Codex coding agent reached general availability and reported rapid adoption—daily usage up tenfold since August—with GPT‑5‑Codex serving roughly 40 trillion tokens in recent weeks. The company introduced a Slack integration that lets teams assign tasks to an @Codex bot from threads with optional code-merge and added enterprise admin controls including a dashboard for safer defaults, data cleanup and analytics. OpenAI released a Codex SDK (initially TypeScript) that provides structured outputs and session context management so developers can embed the agent and build custom coding assistants. Separately, OpenAI launched an Apps SDK that enables third-party apps to be embedded in ChatGPT with app calls and follow-up interactions, naming initial partners Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Figma, Expedia, Spotify and Zillow. OpenAI also showcased internal workplace tools (GTM Assistant, OpenHouse, Support Agent) and said it has not ruled out productizing or acquiring such software as it expands developer tooling amid intensified competition.
