EDP Renewables Delivers 400 MW Solar Projects for Microsoft
EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA) has launched three new utility-scale solar projects totaling 400 megawatts (MW) in Illinois and Texas, which will provide nearly 389 MW of electricity to Microsoft through long-term virtual power purchase agreements (PPAs). The projects include the 140-MW Wolf Run and the 110-MW Hickory Solar Projects in Southern Illinois, and the 150-MW Cattlemen II Solar Project near Austin, Texas. The Hickory project specifically employs an Environmental Justice PPA aimed at supporting communities adversely affected by pollution and climate change, creating funding opportunities for local initiatives and workforce training. These projects are expected to generate significant economic benefits, including millions in landowner payments and local taxes, as well as job creation during their construction phases. The collaboration between EDPR and Microsoft now encompasses five operational projects, highlighting their commitment to sustainability and community support. Overall, this initiative represents a significant step in advancing renewable energy development while contributing to local economies.
