Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee announced that some information from the state's RIBridges social services system has been published on the dark web following a cyberattack revealed on December 13. The attack compromised the personal data of approximately 650,000 residents, including sensitive details like Social Security and bank account numbers. While the exact contents of the released files are still under investigation, state IT teams are working with vendor Deloitte to assess the situation and identify affected individuals. Those whose information was exposed will receive letters with instructions for free credit monitoring. McKee urged residents to remain vigilant against potential identity theft and fraud. The RIBridges system has been offline since the attack, and alternative application methods are being employed for essential services.
