East Wilco Highway Segment 3 Opens in Williamson County

Williamson County and TxDOT have opened Segment 3 of the East Wilco Highway, expanding FM 3349 and CR 101 from two to four lanes and adding bridges over US 79 and the Union Pacific Railroad, alongside a new interchange. The segment, costing $80-95 million and funded by a 2019 bond and TxDOT, aims to improve safety, emergency access, and traffic flow in a rapidly growing region near Hutto, Taylor, and the Samsung plant. This milestone is part of an eight-segment road initiative, the largest and most expensive in county history, designed to connect Texas 130 and Interstate 35. Local officials and U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions emphasized the project's importance for economic development, national security, and community growth. The project faced delays due to the pandemic and severe weather. Segment 3 opens to the public this weekend, with other segments under construction through 2027.
