David, who was working for a French aid agency in Syria, was kidnapped shortly after his arrival in March 2013 and held captive for 18 months. In the wake of his tragic murder, Mike has found peace and closure through forgiveness and by founding a charity aimed at promoting tolerance and understanding in schools. He expressed that he no longer needs David's body for closure, accepting that his remains likely lie somewhere in the Syrian desert. Mike emphasized the importance of moving on and breaking free from the hatred he felt toward ISIS, which he realized was an obstacle to his healing.
