Alex Salmond Laid to Rest in Aberdeenshire
Former first minister Alex Salmond was laid to rest in a private funeral service at Strichen Parish Church near his home in Aberdeenshire. Salmond, who passed away from a heart attack at the age of 69 in North Macedonia, was honored by family and close friends, including notable figures such as acting Alba Party leader Kenny MacAskill and former SNP colleagues. The service, led by family friend Reverend Ian McEwan, included eulogies highlighting Salmond's public and personal life. First Minister John Swinney, although not present, expressed condolences on behalf of the Scottish government. A public memorial is planned for a later date, possibly coinciding with St Andrew’s Day. Salmond's body was repatriated to Scotland on a private flight arranged by his family.
