Barry Mooney Sentenced for Gary Hindle Murder

Barry Mooney has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering 53-year-old Gary Hindle in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, on July 18. Mooney, 55, admitted to murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent, receiving a minimum term of 26 years before being eligible for parole. The attack, described as unprovoked, occurred after a brief conversation between the two men, during which Mooney retrieved a large knife from a nearby tree and fatally injured Hindle. Following the stabbing, Mooney also assaulted another man, leaving him with life-changing injuries. Mooney refused to comply with police orders to drop the knife and was subdued with a Taser. Hindle's family expressed their devastation over his loss, describing him as a beloved father and friend who had a 'heart of gold.'
