Toyota Completes Phase 1 of $10 Billion Woven City

Toyota Motor Corporation has officially unveiled the first phase of its Woven City project near Mount Fuji, a $10 billion initiative aimed at testing advanced mobility technologies such as robotics, AI, and hydrogen fuel systems. Spanning 47,000 square meters, the city is intended as a collaborative environment for researchers, referred to as 'weavers,' to experiment with prototype products and services that aim to redefine urban living. Chairman Akio Toyoda emphasized that Woven City is not just a traditional smart city but a unique test course for mobility innovation, with plans for the facility to expand significantly in the future. The first phase includes various infrastructure components, such as logistics streets for automated services and residential buildings, with further construction ongoing. The official launch is set for fall 2025, where the first residents will move in, marking a significant milestone for Toyota's transformation into a mobility company. This project reflects Toyota's commitment to sustainable transport solutions, notably through its emphasis on hydrogen energy, contrasting with the industry's current focus on electric vehicles.
