Minnesota Hosts First K-Pop Convention in St. Paul

Minnesota hosted its first major K-pop convention, KPop MinneCon, at the Saint Paul RiverCentre, marking a significant moment for the Midwest's growing K-pop fan base. Organized by MNKPopConnect, the event featured dance competitions, panels on Korean culture and fandom, a dance workshop by popular choreographers, and a performance by South Korean boy band BE:MAX. The convention aimed to create a vibrant community hub for both longtime fans and newcomers, addressing the previous lack of major K-pop events in the region. Attendees enjoyed activities such as photocards exchanges, vendor markets with nearly 50 vendors, and fan meet-and-greets, all reflecting the dedication and enthusiasm of K-pop culture. The event also tied into the recent popularity of the Netflix film "KPop Demon Hunters," which helped elevate interest in K-pop fandom. Organizers hope KPop MinneCon will become an annual tradition, fostering a long-term hub for K-pop fans across the Midwest.
