Wisconsin Inmate Gets Life for Cellmate Murder

Taylor Sanchez, a 29-year-old inmate serving a two-year sentence for battery at Taycheedah Correctional Institution in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the July 2023 killing of her 68-year-old cellmate, Cindy Schulz-Juedes. Sanchez beat Schulz-Juedes to death using her hands and feet, causing severe skull and rib fractures. She later told authorities she was hearing voices and had stopped taking her medication. Schulz-Juedes was serving a life sentence for the 2006 murder of her husband. Sanchez initially pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity but changed her plea to no contest, resulting in a conviction. Judge Tricia Walker described the attack as 'wholly vicious,' and prosecutors highlighted the need to protect inmates and staff from prison violence.
