LAX Metro Transit Center Opens Connecting Los Angeles Airport
The long-awaited LAX/Metro Transit Center station officially opened on June 6th, providing a crucial new transit connection to Los Angeles International Airport. Serving Metro's C and K Lines along with multiple bus routes, the station offers travelers a direct, car-free option to access one of the busiest airports in the world, with shuttle buses running every 10 minutes to airport terminals until the Automated People Mover opens in 2026. The station features amenities such as a bike hub, restrooms, customer service center, and a large bus plaza serving numerous routes, enhancing overall transit connectivity. To celebrate the opening, Metro offered free rides on its rail and bus systems from June 6th through June 9th. Local officials including Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Metro Board Chair Janice Hahn emphasized the station's significance in improving public transportation and reducing traffic congestion ahead of major upcoming events like the 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2028 Olympics. This new transit hub marks a major milestone in Los Angeles' efforts to modernize its transportation infrastructure and better connect the airport to the city and surrounding regions.
