Navy Jet Crashes Off San Diego, 2 Pilots Rescued
A U.S. Navy E/A-18G Growler jet crashed off the coast of San Diego on Wednesday morning, with both pilots successfully rescued shortly after ejecting from the aircraft. The incident occurred around 10:17 a.m. local time near Shelter Island, where witnesses reported the aircraft flying low before it went down. After entering the water, the pilots were picked up by a nearby fishing vessel and later transferred to a Customs and Border Protection boat. They were taken to a local hospital and are reported to be in stable condition. The Coast Guard is currently safeguarding the wreckage of the Growler in San Diego Harbor, while the cause of the crash remains under investigation. The Growler is known for its role in electronic warfare, and all such jets are based in Whidbey Island, Washington.
