The BBC and BritBox International have announced the cast for 'Riot Women', a new drama series created by Sally Wainwright, known for hits like 'Happy Valley'. The show follows a group of middle-aged women who form a punk-rock band to enter a local talent contest, discovering their voices and personal challenges along the way. Leading the cast are Joanna Scanlan as Beth, Rosalie Craig as Kitty, Tamsin Greig as Holly, Lorraine Ashbourne as Jess, and Amelia Bullmore as Yvonne. The narrative explores themes of friendship and resilience as the band grapples with demanding lives and a long-buried secret that complicates their dynamics. The six-part series, featuring original songs from the band ARXX, is currently filming in West Yorkshire and is set to premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One next year. Wainwright expressed immense excitement about the project, calling it one of her most thrilling works yet.
