Sister Jean Celebrates 105th Birthday

Sister Jean Dolores-Schmidt, the beloved chaplain of the Loyola University Chicago men’s basketball team, celebrated her 105th birthday on August 21, 2023. Known for her national fame during Loyola's 2018 NCAA Final Four run, Sister Jean continues to inspire and support the team. Born in San Francisco in 1919, she has been with Loyola since 1991 and became the men's team chaplain in 1994. Social media was abuzz with birthday wishes from various sports leagues, including the NCAA and MLB, commemorating her impact and ongoing dedication. Despite her age, Sister Jean remains active, working five days a week and participating in public events, such as throwing the first pitch for the Chicago Cubs in 2022.
