Body Found in Lake Mendota Under UWPD Probe

A middle-aged man's body was found about 50 feet offshore in Lake Mendota near UW-Madison's Memorial Union early on July 6, 2025. A passerby reported the discovery, prompting a response from UW-Madison Police and the Madison Fire Department at around 6:10 a.m. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and preliminary investigations found no signs of foul play. The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an investigation and will release the deceased's identity after notifying next of kin.
