Ohio State Women’s Basketball Coach Charged with OVI in Dublin, Ohio
Ohio State women's basketball head coach Kevin McGuff, named the Big Ten's 2024 Coach of the Year, was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired (OVI) on May 6 after police found him driving erratically in Dublin, Ohio. According to reports, McGuff hit several curbs and drove into a yard, refused to provide a breath sample, and failed three field sobriety tests, leading to the suspension and seizure of his license. McGuff told officers he had not been drinking, though police noted the smell of alcohol on his breath. Ohio State University stated it is aware of the charge, is in communication with McGuff, and is monitoring the situation closely, describing it as an ongoing personal legal matter. McGuff has a notable coaching career, having led Ohio State to eight NCAA tournament appearances in 12 seasons, including a Big Ten title in the 2023-2024 season, and previously coached at Washington and Xavier. His contract was extended through the 2025-26 season prior to the incident.
