Series of Mysterious Deaths Involving Russian Elite After Window Falls
Vyacheslav Leontyev, the 87-year-old former head of the Pravda publishing house, has died after falling from his sixth-floor apartment window in Moscow, in what authorities preliminarily consider a suicide linked to a nervous breakdown. Leontyev managed Pravda, a major Soviet-era Communist Party newspaper, and was rumored to have extensive knowledge about the party's secret finances, leading some to speculate he may have been secretly wealthy. His death is part of a suspicious pattern of unexplained fatalities among prominent Russian figures, many involving defenestration, since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in 2022. Exiled journalist Andrey Malgin noted the continuation of these "window falls," highlighting the mysterious deaths of other officials such as Alexander Fedotov and Roman Starovoit, the latter's death officially ruled a suicide but surrounded by allegations of torture and murder. These incidents have raised concerns about potential foul play or political motives behind the deaths of high-ranking businessmen and officials close to the Kremlin. Russian authorities continue to investigate these cases amid ongoing speculation and lack of conclusive evidence regarding their causes.
