Former Newsboys' Michael Tait Admits Drug Abuse, Sexual Misconduct, Begins Recovery
Michael Tait, former frontman of Christian bands DC Talk and the Newsboys, publicly admitted to decades of drug and alcohol abuse as well as inappropriate sexual conduct involving men, following allegations of grooming and assault. Tait acknowledged living a double life, deceiving family, friends, and bandmates, and expressed deep remorse for the pain caused, calling his actions sin and taking full responsibility without excuses. He revealed he left the Newsboys in January to seek help and has since undergone treatment, remaining sober and committed to recovery. Multiple reports, including a two-and-a-half-year investigation by The Roys Report, detailed allegations of sexual misconduct and substance abuse spanning many years. Current Newsboys members expressed shock and feelings of betrayal upon learning of the accusations. Tait’s confession emphasized his hope for forgiveness and healing, while acknowledging the ongoing hard work required for his restoration.
