Napoli Signs Defender Miguel Gutiérrez from Girona for €18M

Napoli, the reigning Italian Serie A champions, have signed Spanish left-back Miguel Gutiérrez from Girona on a reported five-year contract worth around 18-20 million euros. Gutiérrez, 24, is a product of the Real Madrid academy and has notable experience, including winning a La Liga title and Champions League with Real Madrid, playing 10 senior matches for them, and earning an Olympic gold medal with Spain at the 2024 Paris Games. He was a key player in Girona's surprising third-place finish in La Liga in the 2023-24 season, making 112-113 appearances, scoring six goals, and providing around 18-19 assists, while also featuring in six Champions League games last season. Girona struggled last season, finishing 16th, and have lost several key players including Gutiérrez, top scorer Artem Dovbyk, and loaned Savinho back to Manchester City. This signing is part of Napoli's active transfer window, which also saw the arrivals of Kevin De Bruyne and others, as the club aims to defend their title and make a strong showing in the Champions League under coach Antonio Conte. Napoli will begin their Serie A campaign soon, bolstered by these additions.
