Renowned choreographer Shaik Jani Basha, known as Jani Master, was arrested in Goa by the Cyberabad police following allegations of sexual assault by his 21-year-old assistant, who claims the abuse started when she was a minor. The police added charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after identifying that the victim was 16 when the harassment began. Jani Master had been missing but was tracked down and will be brought to Hyderabad for further legal proceedings. His wife, Sumalatha alias Ayesha, will also be investigated for allegedly harassing the victim. The Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce has suspended Jani Master, and actor-politician Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena party has distanced itself from him. The Telangana State Commission for Women has intervened, providing protection for the victim and setting up a monitoring committee to investigate such cases in the film industry.
