Kentucky, 22 States Sue Trump Administration Over Federal Funding Freeze
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has joined lawsuits alongside more than 20 other states and the District of Columbia to challenge the Trump administration's decision to freeze federal funding critical to the state. One lawsuit targets the withholding of approximately $3.6 million in grants intended to support Unemployment Insurance efforts, including fraud protection, program modernization, and equitable access, as well as an additional $4.2 million in at-risk funds designated for disaster relief jobs and training services. Another lawsuit addresses the freezing of over $32 million in funding from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, which supports the development of a reliable electric vehicle charging network. Governor Beshear emphasized that these funds were appropriated by Congress to assist Kentuckians recovering from job loss and to advance infrastructure that benefits families and businesses. The lawsuits argue that the funding freeze violates federal statutory and regulatory requirements and set back important state initiatives. States involved in the litigation include Kansas, Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Jersey, California, and others, highlighting a broad coalition opposing the funding freeze.
