NES Tetris Coming to Switch Online December 12

Nintendo has announced the NES version of Tetris will be available on its Switch Online service starting December 12, 2024, a move that continues the company's commitment to expanding its retro game libraries. This announcement follows earlier mentions during a Partner Direct and is part of a broader strategy to add at least one retro game each month. Additionally, a Tetris-themed Maximus Cup event in Tetris 99 will take place from December 6th to 10th, coinciding with the Tetris franchise's 40th anniversary. The NES version of Tetris, originally released in 1989, is noted for its unique gameplay and increasing difficulty. Players can also explore the history of the game through the digital documentary 'Tetris Forever,' which includes playable older versions. With this addition, only the release of Donkey Kong Land III remains unconfirmed for the Nintendo Switch Online service.
