Raiders-Saints QB Derek Carr Retires After 11 Seasons Due Shoulder Injury
Derek Carr, the longtime NFL quarterback and all-time leader in passing for the Las Vegas Raiders, has retired after 11 seasons due to a severe right shoulder injury involving a labral tear and significant rotator cuff degeneration. While surgery was considered, it posed a risk of sidelining him for the entire 2025 season without a guarantee of returning to his previous level of performance. Carr, who signed a four-year, $150 million contract with the New Orleans Saints in 2023, battled multiple injuries during his time with the Saints, including concussions and a fractured hand, and finished with a 14-13 record as a starter in New Orleans. His career totals include 41,245 passing yards, 257 touchdowns, and four Pro Bowl selections, but he never won a playoff game and ended with a 77-92 regular-season record as a starter. The decision to retire was made after personal reflection and discussions with his wife, Heather, with Carr expressing gratitude to teammates, coaches, and fans. Looking forward, Carr plans to transition into business, becoming a major investor and brand ambassador for the health-conscious frozen dessert company Frönen.
