Alice Robinson wins World Cup giant slalom in Italy

Alice Robinson of New Zealand celebrated her first World Cup victory in nearly four years, winning the giant slalom at Kronplatz, Italy. Her triumph came after leading competitors Federica Brignone and Sara Hector both failed to finish their second runs. Robinson's winning time was 1 minute 55.28 seconds, finishing 0.56 seconds ahead of Switzerland's Lara Gut-Behrami and 0.94 seconds ahead of America's Paula Moltzan. After starting in fifth place, Robinson produced a strong second run, taking risks that ultimately paid off. This victory places her at the top of the giant slalom standings, just ahead of Hector and Brignone. Brignone's overall lead in the World Cup standings has been reduced to 55 points by Gut-Behrami, who moved up after her second-place finish.
