The Congress party has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misleading the public regarding employment in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the region has the highest unemployment rate in 45 years, currently at 28.2%, and the second highest in India. AICC National Media Coordinator Dolly Sharma highlighted that approximately 25 lakh young individuals are seeking jobs, with young women facing an alarming unemployment rate of 48.6%. Since 2019, 65% of government positions have remained unfilled amid allegations of recruitment scams. Furthermore, over 60,000 daily wage workers reportedly earn only Rs. 300 per day, despite promises of regularization. The Congress claims that the BJP's assurances of job opportunities and industrial growth post the abrogation of Article 370 have not been fulfilled, exacerbating local job challenges. AICC Media Coordinator Onika Mehrotra emphasized the issue of corruption in recruitment processes and criticized the issuance of domicile certificates to non-natives, which has further complicated employment prospects for local youth.
