Ralph Fiennes Cast as President Snow in Hunger Games Prequel
Ralph Fiennes has been cast as President Coriolanus Snow in the upcoming Hunger Games prequel film Sunrise on the Reaping, which is set 24 years before the original series and focuses on the 50th Hunger Games. Tom Blyth, who portrayed a younger version of Snow in the 2023 film The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, expressed good humor about Fiennes succeeding him, joking that he could still "teach him a few things" as an actor. Despite the recast, Blyth revealed he was willing to undergo extensive prosthetics to age up and reprise the role, but accepted the decision and supports Fiennes fully. Blyth also mentioned that his future in the franchise is not necessarily over, as author Suzanne Collins might write more stories featuring Snow and other characters like Tigris. The time gap of 40 years between the two films justified casting an older actor for Sunrise on the Reaping, and Blyth is enthusiastic about the new film’s focus on Haymitch Abernathy. Ultimately, Blyth believes casting Fiennes was the right choice and looks forward to watching his portrayal of the iconic character.
