Cardinals defeat Reds 6-1 with five-run eighth inning
Andre Pallante delivered six shutout innings, allowing only two hits and one walk while striking out four, leading the St. Louis Cardinals to a 6-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. The Cardinals broke a 1-0 game open with a five-run eighth inning fueled by relievers Scott Barlow, Taylor Rogers, and Tony Santillan, as well as key hits from Masyn Winn and Lars Nootbaar, and a throwing error by Gavin Lux. Brendan Donovan scored the game's first run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Alec Burleson. Reds starter Brady Singer allowed one run on four hits over six innings, striking out seven, but the Reds bullpen struggled late. Cincinnati's only run came in the eighth inning due to a throwing error by right fielder Jordan Walker. Pallante improved to 5-3 with this start and is noted for leading the majors in groundouts, though he maintains a 4.48 ERA and 1.31 WHIP this season.
