Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail Surpasses 10 Million Passengers

China has advanced its high-speed rail infrastructure with the opening of the Chongqing East to Qianjiang section of the Chongqing-Xiamen High-Speed Railway, closing a key gap and enabling travel speeds up to 350 km/h between major economic hubs. Concurrently, Indonesia's Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail line, a joint China-Indonesia project under the Belt and Road Initiative, has surpassed 10 million passenger trips since its 2023 launch, significantly reducing travel time between the two cities to 46 minutes. The Indonesian railway operates 62 daily trains with peak occupancy reaching nearly 100%, supported by expanded online ticketing and modern station amenities. This success has spurred further investment in Indonesia's rail sector, including MRT expansions and freight line modernization, with interest from international suppliers such as Poland's rail industry. Both developments highlight China's leadership in high-speed rail and its growing infrastructure partnerships in Southeast Asia, promoting efficient regional connectivity and economic integration.
